19 of Daniil Medvedev's twenty-one championships have been earned on hard surfaces

A resurgent Medvedev won his first championship for 882 days with success over opponent Moutet in the Almaty Open final.

The Russian, a former number one, has endured a challenging season, achieving just one match at the big events and undergoing a setback at the American major.

The player's varied form on the tennis tour - and difficulties with his service game in especial - caused him exiting of the elite rankings and ultimately separating with long-time coach Gilles Cervara.

Currently working with his coach and his other coach, the tennis star has gradually advanced in the past month - climaxing in a tightly fought three-set victory over challenger Corentin Moutet.

This represents the player's first championship following the Italian tournament and maiden on a hard surface since March of that year.

The win also indicates the Russian has achieved twenty-one championships at twenty-one different events.

"This marks the first occasion I have attended a event with my two daughters together, so to get a championship is really nice," said ranked player Medvedev.

"This victory is in dedication of my younger daughter my daughter, because the first title I won when my child her name was delivered was for her."

The athlete, the past champion, had failed in his previous six title deciders, featuring in that event earlier this year.

The player's retrieving strategy and frequent outbursts on the playing surface had led commentators to wonder if his ability to perform at the highest level was over.

Yet the player has made changes in recent weeks, attempting to advance forward and play assertively, reinforced by an enhanced serving game.

He fought back from a deficit in the initial set against the difficult Frenchman, taking 4 of the final five games to go ahead.

Both players exchanged break points in the middle set before the Frenchman, striving for his first professional title, gained dominance to force a decider.

Moutet defended four early-game break points in a close deciding set before the champion broke to that score to close out the victory.

Suitably, the winner earned the title with a point at the net area, with Moutet incapable to control a shot after over two and a half hours.
